This all began with a napkin sketch and a young couples dream. To be a part of their process was great privilege. Together we transformed a very “vintage” building into the coffee shop they saw in its bones. We maintained as much of the original as possible – resealing the brick that was found under layers of sheetrock and paneling, painting and patching the metal ceiling panels – while also bringing in clean new flooring, tile, and sparkly white sheetrock. As the coffee shop is located in New Salem, ND (Go Holsteins!) we added barn elements in the form of galvanized metal under the counter and live edge counters. The corner fireplace was a special touch as a memorial to the owner’s mom. The final product is a thriving business that glows from the warmth of the design, the joyful spirit of the owners, and the smell of coffee and baked treats. It is a special place indeed.
